The R.V. Heraclitus spent four and a half months crossing from Guam to Seattle. I met the ship when it arrived in Seattle. Below is a short summary of what we did while there. Notably lacking is Sally and Dan Kranzler's house. Both of them appear in the pictures below, and it is largely thanks to them that the crew was able to recover, work, and leave quickly. Needless to say, many other people were indispensible, and some fantastic connections were made, but most of them are represented in the photos.

While off the coast of Japan, RVH skirted a typhoon for a few days. After they had gotten around it, the stress of the high winds finally took its toll, and the foremast snapped. The decision was made to continue the journey instead of changing course for repairs. When RVH arrived in Seattle, the crew had to rest and recover, and all of the work necessary to replace the mast had to be done before the ship began its West Coast Homecoming Tour. RVH got a new foremast, a new foresail, a new forward railing, a new bolster, newly repainted eyes, a hull paint job, and red highlights. All this in 8 very short (but oh so long) days. It was really an incredible feat. I hope you get a sense of the triumph in the air from these photos.
