I went to hear Congressman and Presidential Nominee Dennis Kucinich speak at the First Congregational Church of Berkeley (2345 Channing) on Thursday night. He is quite a speaker. Listening to him is the first time I've heard a politician speak in a manner that did not evoke immediate cynicism. There's something about the way he speaks that seems much more real and present than you normally expect. There were a couple of times he obviously reverted to a stock set of phrases he had prepared earlier, but most of his speech was direct and full of content instead of fluff. He refused to focus on destruction and any negative phrases; his entire speech was based on the premise that to grow as a nation we must join the world and exhibit trust and compassion. His focus in international politics is to drop the fear of the Other that has been so well established by our current administration, and replace it with a genuine request to rejoin the world community.
I urge you to read up on some of what he has to say on his websites, and think about whether you are interested in actually changing the paradigm through which our government interacts with our country and the world.
I apologize for the quality of the pictures; I was shooting without a flash and without a proper tripod.

There are also two movies I took. They're silent, but kinda neat anyways. One was from the beginning (4.0MB) and the other from the end (11.0MB) of the speech. Sorry, they're kinda big and kinda short. ;)
